‘Financialization’ as a Cause of Economic Malaise

Economists are searching for reasons why the United States economy is growing slowly. It’s a horrible word, but the issue of ‘financialization’, the growth of the financial sector as a share of gross domestic product, is under scrutiny. Financialization is also a factor in the growth of income inequality, which also threatens growth. Recent research is improving our knowledge of financialization, which has yet to get the attention of policy makers.
